    Introduction to the Center for Exchanges and Mutual Learning among Civilizations at Xiamen University


    The Research Center was established in April 2023. Leveraging the academic strengths of the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures at Xiamen University, along with its extensive expertise in cultural communication and international exchange, the Center has assembled a diverse research team with over 30 members. This team, primarily composed of faculty members specializing in cross-cultural communication, country and regional studies, international relations, sociology, and anthropology, embodies the multilingual nature of the Center.


    Since its inception, the Center has dedicated itself to deepening exchanges and mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign civilizations. Its overarching objectives include promoting the global dissemination of Chinese culture and implementing initiatives for global development. The Center is firmly rooted in China but aims to advance research on various countries, regions and international communication. It seeks to deepen the understanding of civilizations and cultures, foster humanistic exchanges between China and foreign nations, stimulate cross-disciplinary innovations, and establish a leading position in foreign communication through an issue-oriented approach.


    The Center strives to build outstanding research platforms with strengths in foreign communication, boasting deep theoretical foundations and extensive practical experience in regional and international studies and the study of mutual understanding of civilizations. Actively harnessing the influence of university think tanks in relevant fields, the Center aims to consistently promote mutual respect and harmonious coexistence among different cultures and civilizations. Its ultimate goal is to contribute to the establishment of a community of shared destiny for mankind.
